A sermon in Los Angeles' great First Unitarian Church was the spark for this. About the same time, altogether independently, and in another part of the country, appeared, 'I Don't Want to Get Adjusted.' When the time comes for a song, there it is, sometimes even in two places at once." To introduce her song in Sing Out! in 1950 Malvina wrote: "Here is a good critique of modern psychology and contemporary politics. It isn't you who has to adjust to the system; make it adjust to you. Sing it with a twinkle in your eye, a worried frown on your face and a lilt in your voice."
